MADELINE VERDESCA
How did I get into this career?
What first drew me to psychology was a fascination with learning how people work, and hearing their stories. When I was preparing for college, this fascination grew into the pursuit of a career in psychology, and I realized I wanted to be a therapist. Alongside my own experiences with therapy, I took personality and career assessments, and spoke with friends, family, and mentors; everything affirmed that my strengths would be a great fit for the field of therapy. The further I got into my training to be a therapist, the more excited and enthusiastic I became. Every day I’m more grateful that I get to do this for a living.
What is my favorite thing about counseling?
I love that I get to focus on growth, healing, and relationships. I love that I get to listen to people’s stories and make them feel seen, heard, and valued. We need a lot more of that in this world, and the small part I get to play in doing this for my community is an honor and a privilege. I adore this field.
What do I like to do when I'm not at Renovating Hope?
On my days off you could catch me gardening, reading a book, playing video games. I also find a lot of joy in singing and teaching music, watching Gilmore Girls, or going on walks with my husband, Jon, and my labradoodle, River.
What is my goal for my clients?
I aim to provide every client with the experience of feeling seen, heard, and valued, and to provide them with hope for a future where they have agency, fulfillment, and joy.
